What are we looking for?
We are seeking an experienced and talented Service Technician that will be responsible for the daily operation, monitoring, and analytical testing of the plant’s process and wastewater systems. The technician will ensure that all process parameters are within specification, conducts daily water quality analyses, maintains proper housekeeping, and ensures compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
What do we expect from the candidate?
The candidate will be part of our technical team based at VWSA. Must be based in Eastern Cape.
The key responsibilities:
Operational duties:
Operate and monitor water and wastewater treatment equipment in accordance with the plant’s operating and control plans.
Conduct daily process water analysis to verify water quality and ensure compliance with plant and regulatory requirements.
Adjust process parameters as per control plan or management instruction to maintain optimal treatment efficiency.
Report any equipment malfunctions, process abnormalities, or deviations immediately to the Supervisor and Maintenance teams.
Reporting and documentation:
Complete and update daily operational logs, laboratory results, and process reports accurately and on time.
Submit required reports to the Supervisor or Process Manager as per the plant reporting schedule.
Maintain records of water quality results, chemical usage, and equipment performance for traceability and audits.
Housekeeping and Maintenance:
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in all operational and laboratory areas.
Follow good housekeeping practices (5S) and ensure that all chemical and sample handling areas are compliant with safety standards.
Safety and compliance:
Adhere to all safety policies, standard operating procedures, and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Understand and follow all Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) for chemicals used in the plant.
Ensure that Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical labels are up to date and in good condition. Report and replace any outdated or damaged documents as required.
Immediately report any safety hazards, spills, or unsafe conditions to management.
Meetings and communication:
Attend daily or scheduled process meetings to provide updates on plant performance, analysis results, and issues encountered.
Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors regarding process conditions and required actions.
Quality and performance:
Ensure that all analytical and operational activities meet the required quality and process standards.
Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing water quality, plant efficiency, and environmental performance.
Follow all direct instructions from the management team related to process operations, maintenance coordination, and data recording.
Compliance and accountability:
Strictly adhere to the plant’s Operating and Control Plan.
If you possess…
Must-Have:
Grade 12 (Matric).
Chemical engineering/Analytical Chemistry or related.
At least 1 to 5 years' experience in a similar environment.
If you are…
Able to tackle complex problems effectively and adapt to fast-paced development environments.
A strong leader and have the ability to mentor junior consultants.
Proven track record of working effectively in remote team settings, demonstrating flexibility, and contributing positively to a collaborative work environment.
Analytical and a Problem-Solving person: Exceptional ability to analyse complex requirements, identify potential bottlenecks, and devise effective solutions. Strong debugging skills to efficiently resolve issues in the development process.
